Mourinho Named as Inter Milan Boss
Jose Mourinho was today named as the new Inter Milan boss after months of speculation about his future. Previously he was linked to the England Manager vacancy; however it was thought that his wage demands were too high for the English FA to consider appointing him.
Mourinho has had a successful career to date, yet controversial. Love him or hate him, it has been difficult not to notice Mourinho and his impact on European football. In media interviews he is always more animated than most managers and is one to come out with headlining comments. Fans of Chelsea always loved Mourinho and his personality and during his time at Chelsea he never lost a home premiership match at Stamford Bridge. In his time he has won the FA cup and two premiership titles. A falling out with Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is what was thought to signal the end of his time at Chelsea. A previous Champions League winner with FC Porto, Mourinho’s last season with Chelsea was one of disappointment. The Champions League was something that Chelsea had always wanted to win since the money days begun under Abramovich, but the disappointing draw in the group stages signalled the beginning of the end for Mourinho.
Inter Milan is a team with immense talent and are often talked about having one of the best squads in European football. Their former manager Roberto Mancini won the league on two occasions and was generally a successful manager. However he was unsuccessful at winning the European championships. The Champions league is the main trophy to win in European football, and ultimately the world over.
Jose Mourinho has a huge task ahead of him. Italian football has fallen behind in recent years, especially to teams in England and Spain. Once the pinnacle of European football, Italian football has seen a decline in recent years. One task faced by Mourinho is not only to invest in the current team, but to keep and eye on the future and focus on long term development.
With the Italian league not scheduled to start until August Mourinho has a challenging pre-season campaign to arrange his side in time for the Serie A. In the transfer market there are a number of players who will ultimately be linked to Inter Milan, especially those who have played under Mourinho previously and understand his methods.
